IELTS Test Preparation
About IELTS
IELTS is the International English Language Testing System, the world’s most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration. More than 10,000 organisations trust and recognise IELTS as a secure, valid, and reliable indicator of true-to-life ability to communicate in English for education, immigration, and professional accreditation.
Two Versions of the Test
The IELTS Academic is for those who want to study at a tertiary level in an English-speaking country. The IELTS General Training is for those who want to do work experience or training programs, secondary school or migrate to an English-speaking country.
All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking tests but different Reading and Writing tests.
Aim
The aim of this course is to familiarise participants with the structure of the IELTS test chosen, and to provide them with all the necessary skills to do well in the exam.
Placement Test and Estimated Extent of the Preparation
Before the course begins, all participants are required to take the Oxford Placement Test to assess their level of English. Depending on the level obtained in the test, we will discuss the expected number of classes necessary to manage the four sections. The instructor will use the results of the Oxford test to plan the teaching and meet the needs of the future test takers.
Content
The course will address the four sections of the IELTS test: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. We will examine the structure of each section and the types of questions contained within them, so that the participants acquire the necessary skills to master each section. Participants will have the opportunity to complete exercises and practice tests during the course. We will also discuss relevant supporting skills, including exam time management, and address grammatical and lexical issues as they arise.
Participants will be invited to submit two essays – designed to prepare them for the two separate writing tasks in the exam – on which they will receive personal feedback from the instructor.
Number of participants
We recommend a maximum of 6 participants per class, but if you prefer to be the only student it is also a possibility. Being the sole participant will give you more flexibility as to the number of classes and when and where they are to take place.
